We provide methodology and technology for local organizations to run recurring home food pick programs and other types of recurring food drives.  

Our mission is as simple as our name; we believe most people want to help end hunger, they just need a way to help. That’s where we come in. Our “Simple Gesture Web App” does 95% of the work to operate a high-volume event that can involve thousands of donors, hundreds of drivers, and only take a couple hours of man-hours to do all the up-front work.   

Food insecurity and hunger is getting worse. About 13.5% of Americans struggle to find enough food. Government funding and even Corporate funding is harder to come by meanwhile cost of living is making it harder for our less fortunate neighbors to make ends meet.  

We need new solutions that can move the needle. “A Simple Gesture” is one great solution. Last year these programs picked up about 4.5 million pounds, yet only 1% of Americans have access to a program. We aim to change that, with the goal of having programs covering 70% of our country by 2036.

Hunger relief is costly. Even when grocery stores donate expiring foods, the cost to move it around and store it takes a lot of money.  Your local food bank may have an operating budget of millions, some even exceed 20 million dollars a year. 

Our program costs less than 10 cents to pick up a bag of food that holds about 14.2 pounds of targeted healthy foods. That bag contains more than 12 meals! Imagine that, feeding an entire family for pennies.

“A Simple Gesture” is at least 40 times more efficient compared to other hunger relief solutions.   

Our Chapters main cost is to add the donor, but even that is incredibly cost effective. Chapters often find a brand sponsor to support the program and gain high visibility.  Many of these sponsors are already funding other hunger relief programs.

We offer 3 programs to operate recurring food drives. 

DONOR/DRIVER:   

• Donors and Drivers register on www.JoinSG.org. 
• Donors and Drivers confirm their participation by replying yes or no to a text/email sent by our system.
• Our web app pools them into “least mile” routes. 
• Drivers receive their route on their smart phones and follow turn-by-turn directions to complete their route.
• The food stays local. A small event supplies one pantry or Food Bank and larger ones can fill shelves at dozens of sites.

NEIGHBORHOODS:  

• As more donors register, clusters of groups begin to appear on a heat map
• The donors in a cluster are asked to form a neighborhood, with a leader to be called ‘Neighborhood Coordinator’.
• The Neighborhood Coordinator uses a custom QR code and email link to spread the word to other neighbors, growing the donor base.
• Neighbors confirm their participation by replying yes or not to a text/email sent by our system.
• The Neighborhood Coordinator and their helpers pick up the food and take it to nearby Food Banks and Pantries.  

COMMUNITY CIRCLES:  

• Rather than food being picked up at a doorstep, this program organizes donors to bring food to a central location.
• Church’s, Schools, Businesses, HOA’s, and others with a central location sign up their donor base. 
• Donors reply “yes” or “no” if they will bring a bag of food to a specific location on a given date/time.  
• The food is collected and delivered to a nearby Food Bank or Pantry.
